Nancy Wilson is a Grammy Award winner in jazz. Her birth date was February 20, 1937, in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, who was employed in an ironworks, and Lillian Ryan, a former domestic worker. Nancy was the youngest of six siblings. Nancy was greatly influenced as a girl by the music her father was a fan of and played at her home. As young as four years old, she knew she'd be a singing star. She developed her talent due to her participation in the church choir. She won a TV-talent show at the age of 15 and started appearing regularly on the Tv series Skyline Melodies while still in high school. It was at that time that she began to work in nightclubs at the same age. Nancy was a high school graduate aged 17 and enrolled in Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a entire year. She then dropped out to pursue a profession as professional musician. Her first album was with Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, with whom she performed between 1956 and 1958. Nancy recorded her first record in the band's studio with Dot Records while in the band. Cannonball suggested that she make the move to New York and go to The Big Town for the rest of her career. The singer was brought in to perform at The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had heard her. The contract was signed with Capitol Records in 1960. The year was 1960 when she debuted with the song. Guess who? Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. She began by focusing on R&B and then, with Adderley's influence, she started to take on jazz. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley and their 1962 collaboration helped her reach the top. She had her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth by 1963. The following year, this led to her getting booked in the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
