Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who was employed for a lengthy time as housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest of six children. Nancy was extremely influenced when she was a young girl by the music her father was a fan of and played when she was at his home. As young as four an age, she knew that she was going to be a star in the singing world. She developed her talent by her involvement in the church choir. In 1956, she made her debut record with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with whom she toured from 1956 and 1958. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate in New York for her career after which she made the move in The Big Town. Within a short time she began singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. Adderley's representative heard her sing and immediately agreed to sign her. The agent he was working with signed her up to Capitol in the year 1960. She made her debut that year. Guess Who You Saw Today. Capitol published five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. She began by focusing on R&B, but under Adderley's influence, she embraced jazz. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley as well as their 1962 partnership made her a star. Her breakthrough hit Tell Me the Truth by 1963. The singer was offered a position at New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's most prestigious nightclub.
