Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson as an ironworker in Chillicothe on the 20th of February, 1937. Her mother, Lillian Ryan worked as a household servant. Nancy Wilson was the first born child at the age of 6. Her father's love of music and the records he played in the family room were an enormous influence on Nancy at the age of a girl. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware she would be a performer. The talent she had developed was discovered by singing with the church choir. In her early teens, she won the talent show on T.V. and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. The singer began performing in night clubs around the at the same time. Nancy quit Central State University in Ohio after she matriculated for an entire year. She made her first recording with Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, who she performed with between 1956 and 1958. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball adderley encouraged her to go to New York in order to increase her fame. She went to The Big Town, New York in 1959. She was commissioned to sing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had heard her. In 1960, he enlisted her to Capitol Records, and that the same year, she debuted her debut single. Guess Who I Saw today Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Under Adderley, Wilson began concentrating on R&B however she soon switched to torch and jazz. Their 1962 collaboration Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley helped propel her to prominence and she had her breakout song Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The following year the release, she was being invited to New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
