The jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on February 20 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest of six children. Nancy's father was an avid music lover and played records with his children at home. It had a huge influence in her early years. Nancy knew that she was going to be a singer when she was four years old and developed her skills by performing in the choir at church. In high school when she started appearing often on Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when won the TV talent show. At the same age when she was working, she began performing in nightclubs. Nancy graduated high school aged 17 and enrolled in Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a full year. She then dropped out to pursue a career as professional musician. In 1956, she recorded her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together from 1956 through 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she make the move into New York so as to improve her career. In 1959 she moved in The Big Town. The singer was brought in to sing for The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had seen her. The singer made her debut in 1960 by releasing one single following a deal with Capitol Records. Guess Who Saw Today. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. Following the influence of Adderley she shifted her focus from R&B towards jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 was instrumental to bring her to the forefront and her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. This brought her a gig in New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she quickly became a legend.
